All the Mouth-Watering Sushi You Can Eat at SAGA SUSHI in Burlington
February 25th, 2008 Categories: Burlington Beat, Food for Soul and Spirit, Places to Eat
We have had only one other experience with an “all you can eat” sushi bar. It was a place in Mississaua which dished up quantity sushi but the quality had been sorely lacking.
So we didn’t have our hopes set too high when we decided to try SAGA SUSHI in Burlington, which opened just a few months ago.
Our 16–year old Nathan could easily consume a double portion of the usual sized sushi dinner and I could probably do the same, so the thought of unlimited portions was very appealing.
Our family of four, including two teenagers, thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
The restaurant decor was modern and appealing. Staff were friendly and good-natured and served us promptly, especially considering every table was full. It was a Saturday night. We were there from about 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m., and there was a perpetual line-up at the door. (Not sure if they allow reservations.)
We had miso soup, lots of eel, egg, salmon and white tuna sushi. Then we tried several of the different rolls. The crispy roll was very good. We had teriyaki salmon and teriyaki chicken, barbecued eel and some tempura. It was fun to have the freedom to order exactly the kind of sushi we like, and to try out new things, like the dumplings, Japanese curry and seaweed salad.
Sushi, main course, salad, soup, dessert (green tea and mango ice cream) Japanese tea, Coke, Sprite were all consumed with abandon. The fee was $20.00 per person with no extra charge for dessert or drinks. Hard to beat if you are a sushi lover. (Don’t go if you are on a diet.)
We will definitely be back.

We went to Saga Sushi last week and our expereince was entirely different. The food was great, however, I tried something new and didn’t like it. When we asked for the bill we were told we would be charged extra for the food we did not eat. The waitress was very unfriendly and unhelpful, which was understandable when the bill came and we found out the tip was added to the bill, so why would she try to be helpful.
We will not return.
We went to Saga Sushi last night for the first time, and I will never go there again.
Not only was the service entirely unfriendly…they were very unprofessional.
no one was wearing a uniform, which i found to be very odd since restaurants always have synchronized outfits.
they messed up our order about 5 times…bringing us things twice, or bringing us things we didn’t even order.
then when we got the bill, i was absolutely shocked to see that they had calculated their 10% tip into our final total.
i was outraged!
a tip is supposed to be something that i WANT to give you. you are supposed to earn a tip….not just demand it by including it in the bill.
i will never go there again.
the food was okay….not the best sushi i’ve had.
if you want a good sushi all you can eat restaurant go to Momiji Sushi off dundas in oakville.
i go there on a weekly basis, and the food is always outstanding.
we wanted to try something new by going to Soba Sushi, and i was all over unimpressed with everything about the place.
Growing up in Markham, I’ve dined at about 10 different all u can eat sushi restaurants and maybe 50 something sushi restaurants in total plus I’ve vacationed in Tokyo.
That said, I would say Saga Sushi is as good as any all u can eat sushi restaurant I’ve been to in the GTA. My wife and friends enjoy it so much, we patron the restaurant at least once a month.
Its all about setting expectations. Is the food great? No, but its pretty good for 18.99 all u can eat. If you want better quality and service, try Ichican in the Chapters plaza on Fairview in Burlington.
Erwin, thanks for your comments. All our family’s experiences at Saga Sushi have been positive, though like you said you can’t expect an all you can eat to compare with the finest Japanese sushi. I can see that readers have varying opinions, hopefully they are helpful to others!

Thanks for the review. We were looking for a place like this near Oakville. Hint to readers as I’ve gone to these places before. Once your first order is delivered, have your next order ready. Otherwise flagging wait staff can be difficult. Especially since any delays work to the restaurant’s advantage since it gives you less time to eat.
I have no idea what any of you are talking about. I am now a regular customer of Saga Sushi. I am constantly amazed with the quality of the food. As for the staff, they are accomdating all the time. On Valentines day, my fiance took me for lunch and because it was a “holiday” we were going to be charged $20.99. MY fiance said he didnt consider it a holidau and they told us no problem right away and charged us $12.99. I have no complants!!
I’ve been to many, many sushi restaurants in Toronto, Missisauga, even in Los Angeles. All I can say, is that Saga Sushi is my favorite.
Quality 9/10: I actually found the quality of food to be great (better than most non-all-you-can-eat places). The sushi and sahimi is very tender, as is the beef and chicken. I am a big fan of their “crunchy” spicy salmon sushi. I find that the quality is also pretty consistant. Only on about 1 occasion has it been a bit less tender. The chefs know what they’re doing!
Service 8/10: The employees at Saga are generally very friendly and helpful. They come to serve and deliver the food quite quickly as well. Every now and then, they mess up (or forget) an order, but that’s the beaty of all you can eat. They always admit to their mistakes and fix it.
Atmoshpere 9/10: Saga Sushi has a very warm and nice atmosphere. My only complaint is that the tables are too far away from the booths. Otherwise, it’s very nice on the inside.
Price 10/10: Until 3PM every day (except holidays) ou pay $12.99 for all you can eat. That is a very good deal considering a couple pieces of sushi usually cost ten dollars. Plus, drinks and dessert are included. At dinner, it costs a bit more money, at about $20 for all you can eat. Nevertheless, it still is a good deal. If you don’t finish everything on your plate, we’ve never been asked to pay for it. They’re pretty good in that wat (unlike other places in Toronto).
Overall 8.5/10: I STRONGLY recommend going to Saga Sushi. It is a great restaurant. I’ve been t here over 100 times an only about 2 of those times has it been slightly unpleasant.
